POSITIVE OUTCOMES FOR OUR CLIENTS
Catholic Charities helps thousands of poor and vulnerable individuals and families rebuild their lives through a wide variety of integrated services. However, more important than the numbers of clients we reach are the lives that have been changed for good. These are the true measures of our success—and they are successes that our supporters helped make possible. Here are just a few examples of what we have accomplished together during the past year:
- In our CORAL after-school program, 850 elementary school children gained an average of 1.2 years of growth in reading levels for six months of participation.
- Through our Foster Grandparents program, dedicated senior volunteers gave over 66,000 hours of time this year to nurture 3,800 special-needs children throughout the county.
- Of the 641 people caring for relative children or frail elders who participated in our caregiver programs, 87% of them told us that their levels of stress and burden had been reduced.
- Through our Young Women’s Empowerment Program, 97% of 113 young women gained the knowledge and self-respect to avoid violent relationships.
- Our Immigration Legal Services provided 3,063 individuals with legal consultations and representations.
- With support from our Behavioral Health Services, 93% of 142 adults and older adults with serious mental health issues avoided psychiatric hospitalization.
- The Shared Housing Program served 486 low-income individuals seeking affordable housing through home-sharing.
- Through our Refugee Foster Care program, 11 young people who were living in refugee camps without parents or caregivers have found loving foster families.
- Through our Individual Development Account matched savings and financial education program, low-income families have saved more than $2.5 million to date for education, small business start-ups, home purchases and improvements, job training, and retirement.
- Our three nutrition programs served more than 71,000 hot, nutritious lunches to seniors this year in a community setting; for most of them, this was their primary meal of the day.
