Peer/Family Mentor Intern
Job Code: 2008-41 Location: San Jose, CA GENERAL NATURE OF POSITION: Provides outreach, engagement, support, role modeling, coaching and/or aftercare for children, adults and/or older adult clients and their families that are participating in our mental health programs. The focus is on assisting the individual to grow and manage their recovery and their families to understand and support their recovery. This is a part time, 20 hour per week internship position. ESSENTIAL JOB
FUNCTIONS:
· Provides field peer counseling to clients in reducing their isolation or in communicating effectively with their families. · Accompanies clients to needed services · Models or coaches families to assist their client to recover. · May co-facilitate client and/or family groups.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required
education and experience: · Experience with children, adults or older adults with mental health and/or substance abuse disorders as an individual or as a family member · If a family member, participating in family education programs · Recovery of mental health and/or substance abuse disorders managed for at least one year · Bi-lingual skills required, e.g. Spanish, Vietnamese, Mandarin, and/or American Sign Language, etc. · Good oral and written English skills · Excellent culturally competent, inter-generational, and interpersonal skills. · Computer skills using Windows Physical
