TRUANCY AND OUTREACH SUPPORT
Summary of services:

The Truancy Outreach & Support Project
works Vietnamese and Latino youth referred from
schools and TABS (Truancy Abatement and Burglary
Suppression) Center to reconnect them back to
school and/or alternative programs.
The goal of the Truancy Outreach &
Support Project is to help youth succeed in school,
with peers, and within their families.
The Youth & Family Specialist provides
intensive case management, individual & family
support, support groups, mentoring, and parent
workshops.

Who is eligible?
Any youth referred from schools and/or TABS Center
in East San Jose who are at-risk of dropping out of
school, truant, or failing in their classes. The target
population is Latino and Vietnamese youth 11 to 18 years
of age.

Mentors needed
Qualifications:
- 20 years of age and older
- Must have a clean record (DMV & criminal
background)
- Must commit for at least 6 mos.
- Meet with mentees on a weekly basis
- Attend orientation
- Must have the desire to be a positive role
model to a youth

Service sites and hours of operation:
Outreach occurs throughout East San Jose, but is focused
on the following schools: Yerba Buena High School, Independence
High School, Silver Creek High School, James Lick High School, and Andrew Hill High School.
Our primary office is at 921 S. First Street in San
Jose.
